Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach out  if you cannot find the answer to your question below

All therapy sessions are currently offered entirely online. If you are unsure about having sessions online, please get in touch and we can discuss this further. Please get in touch if you would like to join the face to face wait list.

During your first session,  Dr Lemkey will ask you a variety of questions to get to know you better and understand what has brought you to these services. Initial sessions focus on rapport building as this is one of the most important elements to therapy. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Sessions typically last 50 minutes to 1 hour, although session length may vary depending on your specific needs, preferences and model of therapy.

No. You do not need a GP referral to access private psychological therapy and are welcome to contact me directly. Some private health insurance providers may require a GP or specialist referral before authorising treatment, so it is worth checking with your insurer if you plan to use private medical insurance.

Yes. Many people choose to self-refer for psychological therapy without first speaking to their GP. If you are unsure whether therapy is right for you, I offer a free brief initial consultation to discuss your needs and answer any questions you may have before arranging an appointment.

Yes, all sessions are confidential. However, there are some limits to confidentiality. These include if there are concerns about your safety or the safety of someone else. If these matter arise, these concerns will be discussed with you openly so you are aware of the information being shared. You will also be asked if you want information regarding your treatment to be shared with  your GP.

Yes. While GLP-1 medications such as Wegovy® and Mounjaro® can support significant weight loss, many people also experience important psychological, behavioural and relational changes during this time. Therapy can provide support with emotional eating, body image, identity, self-esteem, changing relationships, relationships with food, fear of weight regain and developing sustainable behavioural change. My role is not to manage the medication itself, but to support the psychological adjustment that can accompany significant weight loss and lifestyle change.

There is no fixed number of therapy sessions, as this will depend on your individual needs, goals and the difficulties you are experiencing. Some people benefit from shorter-term, focused therapy, while others find longer-term work more helpful, particularly when working through trauma or more complex psychological difficulties. We will regularly review your progress together to ensure therapy continues to meet your needs.

Many people consider therapy when they find that emotional or psychological difficulties are beginning to affect their daily life, relationships, work or overall wellbeing. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, trauma, low mood, burnout, emotional overwhelm or simply feel that things are becoming difficult to manage alone, therapy can provide a safe and supportive space to better understand your experiences and develop effective strategies for lasting change. If you are unsure whether my approach is right for you, I offer a brief initial consultation to discuss your needs and help you decide whether we are a good fit.

Finding the right psychologist is an important part of successful therapy. During our initial consultation, we can discuss your current difficulties, what you are hoping to gain from therapy and whether my approach is likely to meet your needs. If I feel another clinician or service would be better placed to support you, I will discuss this openly and, where appropriate, help guide you towards the most suitable support.

Any cancelled sessions are fully refundable if a minimum of 48 hours notice is provided. If a session is cancelled 24 - 48 hours before your session, you will receive a 50% refund. Late cancellations (less than 24 hours notice) are non-refundable.
